As summer winds down, our summer interns are heading back to their school lives. We've asked several to share their experiences with us. Today, please welcome Jennifer Wong, a rising junior at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. She's majoring in General Psychology and minoring in Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies with an aim of pursuing a career in marketing. She spent her summer interning with our Classroom Magazines team. Thanks, Jenn!
What's the most surprising thing you learned/uncovered during your summer internship?
Jennifer: During my time at Scholastic, the most surprising thing that I discovered was how supportive and welcoming everyone in my department was. My co-workers were all amazing people that truly wanted to see me learn by answering my numerous questions and teaching me the skills I needed to succeed. It was truly rewarding to get the opportunity to work in a team environment - thank you for everything!
Is there a book you began reading as a result of hearing about it at Scholastic?
There wasn’t a book that I began to read as a result of hearing about it at Scholastic rather than because of my experience working here this summer. This summer really solidified my interest in marketing and I have since picked up the book The New Rules of Marketing & PR: How to Use Social Media, Online Video, Mobile Applications, Blogs, News Releases and Viral Marketing to Reach Buyers Directly by David Scott, to learn more about the business!
What's next for you?
I’m looking forward to heading back to school for my final two years and then hopefully a career in Marketing or Advertising (but who really knows, I'm taking it one step at a time)!
