Giveaway: How do you celebrate Earth Day?

It's been 45 years since Earth Day was established, and, amazingly, we're still having conversations about the need to protect our planet.

Those conversations need to start early. I love that Scholastic has resources and activities for kids that can help explain Earth Day and get them involved in hands-on ways. Here are some great ones:

And of course, books are a great way to get kids involved -- because by reading and immersing ourselves into stories, both fiction and nonfiction, we can better understand our planet. Here are some great books about Earth Day from Scholastic Parents, and check out our Earth Day Top Picks here!

By thanking the Creator everyday, drinking water, cooking at home with local, organic produce just to name a few.

We have been composting out

We have been composting out vegetables peels, egg shells, etc. for years. We have a ten year old son who helps us with this. We collect all our vegetation waste in a container our son takes it outside to our compose pile. We turn the compose pile regularly and use it on our plants and rose bushes.

we recycle, reuse and save on energy and water usage daily. its an ongoing thing. We plant a garden every year and pick up trash if we see it on the ground and dispose of it.

We celebrate earth day today and everyday by recycling and upocycling everything we can. We are also careful not to waste water & electricity.

I have been planting flowers and trees with my 2 kids. We have been picking up litter and cutting back on using water, electricity when we don't need it. Its important to take care of our Earth and its important to teach our kids that as well.

We celebrate Earth Day by recycling and repurposing as much as possible. We are also planting our own garden.

Everyday I also turn the water off while I brush my teeth and I teach my boys the same thing to save water! We do not pollute the Earth with trash either! We are also going to plant our flower garden today and a vegetable garden over the weekend!

We start planting our garden on Earth Day, along with conserving water, recycling and reusing on a daily basis.

We are celebrating by planting some new plants int he garden to grow our own herbs and tomatoes. We already cleaned out the closets to recycle and repurpose what we can. Tomorrow is trash day so we are sorting our trsh to recycle as much as possible and throw out as little as possible.

We try to buy products that are made from recycled materials, and we recycle. We are sure to turn the water off while brushing teeth, and shaving etc.

We celebrate Earth every day by using Norwex to clean with - it's reusable and safe for the environment. We create a lot less waste this way and don't expose ourselves to harmful chemicals.

We are green by recycling

We are green by recycling everything, paper,plastic,aluminum, anything that can be recycled. We turn off the water while we're brushing our teeth and take shorter showers.

I celebrate Earth Day by

I celebrate Earth Day by discussing the importance of conservation, recycling and taking care of the Earth with my second grade class. We do an earth day project (reusing something that would normally go in the trash like bottle caps or toilet paper rolls. This year I also got materials from the Enviromental Protection Agency; booklets where kids learn about natural resources and what they are used for and pictures where the have to pick what is the better choice for conservation. We also read an earth-friendly story; often the Lorax because they need to understand the importance of doing their part for themselves and future generations on our planet.

I took my son to the

I took my son to the community garden and we helped plant seeds and water them then cleaned the park, we saved energy by using candles and no lights, and we unplugged all appliances when we aren't using them.
