Scholastic's Spring 2018 middle grade and chapter books preview

Grab your protective goggles because we are time traveling into the near future with the Scholastic Online Preview for our Spring 2018 season! We’ve asked our authors, illustrators and editors to film 44 videos to tell us about their new books coming to stores, libraries and schools very soon! Today, we’d like to introduce you to chapter books and middle grade titles! There’s a cute but resourceful baby monkey, some intergalactic adventure and even a school for toys. We are so pleased to have new books from favorites like Caldecott Award Winner Brian Selznick, Newbery Honoree Christopher Paul Curtis and New York Times bestseller Blue Balliett along with exciting debut authors like Marley Dias, Sayantani DasGupta, Kelly Yang and Kheryn Callender.

All of the books sound great but I would like to check out Good Dog the most.

The Parker Inheritance looks like a good one!

I can't wait to read Christopher Paul Curtis's new book! My kids and I are big fans of his books. We got to meet him at an author event on Friday, and he is just delightful!

There's so many good books coming out in Spring 2018 it's hard to choose! I think my students would like CODE WORD COURAGE by Kirby Larson.

Good Dog by Dan Gemeinhart is on my must read wishlist. His books never disappoint and are always quick to be passed from reader to reader in my classroom. I love the way students connect with his stories.

They all sound AMAZING! But the two that catch my eye the most are The Adventure of Little Charlie, and The Elephant Thief. Powerful stories for middle-grade students.

“Marley Dias Gets It Done-And So Can You!” by Marley Dias. It’s so important for children to experience diverse authors.

Would love to read The Serpent's Secret and find out more about the intergalactic princess.

I am looking forward to reading and sharing with my students "Me, Frida and the Secret of the Peacock Ring" by Angela Cervantes!

You have asked an impossible question!! How do you just choose one from that amazing line up!? I’ve been eyeing the Varian Johnson book for a while, along with Good Dog and Front Desk! I’d feel lucky to read any of them. Thank you for the chance!

If love to check out Front Desk since it features a Chinese American girl as the protagonist. I'm Asian American and am excited to see more books that represent the diverse experiences of Asian Americans.

Ooohh! Definitely Good Dog! I'm so eager to read anything that Dan Gemeinhart writes!

My 10 year old and my library students will love so many of these! I am interested in reading Hurricane Child!

Code Word Courage by Kirby Larson would go great with my Code Talker unit.

Marley Dias!!! Such an inspiration to all! Can’t think of a better leader/role model for today’s youth! This young lady is sure to be a big hit!
