Celebrating April Fools’ Day

Navigating April Fools’ Day can be tricky! As someone who has fallen for fake online announcements and pranks before, I’m here to share with you some great resources and books for kids that will get everyone laughing!

Over at Parent & Child, check out this great list of simple, harmless pranks that will leave kids smiling, rather than feeling tricked. Here’s a sampling:

Yum!
When the kids get home from school, tell them you've made a big batch of delicious “brownies.” Be sure to have your phone camera recording to capture the moment when they tear off the tin foil to reveal a pan full of letter Es cut from brown construction paper.

You’re out of Luck…y Charms
Switch the bag of your child’s favorite cereal with another cereal, like dad’s bran flakes. Who knows? He may even find he likes the healthy stuff.

Or, if your child is looking for help pranking others, Klutz has got you covered. Their book, Prankster Magic, helps kids become prank pros with easy-to-follow instructions for coin and card tricks and “other forms of fakery.” Each copy comes with realistic fake gum – perfect for leaving on laptops, carpets or furniture – as well as hilarious stickers for groceries and fake I.D. cards.

If you want to steer clear of pranks all together, why not read aloud a book that’ll make them laugh? As we discovered in the Kids and Family Reading Report: Fifth Edition, 70% of kids said they want books that made them laugh. Besides these great suggestions for all age groups, Parent & Child has also put together a collection of April Fools-themed books to get kids in the spirit of the holiday with no pranking necessary!
