What to read in 2019 based on your horoscope

It's time to start navigating 2019, readers! While life can be unpredictable we can look to the stars in the sky and the pages of books for some guidance.

We've rounded up our recommendations for each sign to help make this year your best yet.

Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19)

You are ambitious to achieve your goals this year ,and with your sign hosting several planets this year, the universe will be on your side. Your ruler, Saturn, will be housed in your sign in 2019, which bodes well for opportunity in all areas of your life. Be aware of the signs around you — the universe is telling you what you need, which can include needing a break or a chance to slow down, Cap. Use that time to self-reflect and build a solid foundation for the rest of the year.

Recommendations: The books to help you navigate your self-reflection this year include Amber & Dusk by Lyra Selene and The Love & Lies of Rukhsana Ali by Sabina Khan (on sale: 1/29/19).

Aquarius (Jan 20 – Feb 18)

Opposites attract this year, Aquarius. With your home planet Uranus moving into Taurus in early March, you may feel at odds with yourself. Don’t try to do it all. Listen to your body when you’ve taken on too much. Toward the end of the year, Mars will move into Libra bringing a more laid back vibe to your ever-serious work ethic. With peaks and valleys of energy throughout 2019, remind yourself to stay positive.

Recommendations: Take a page out of these books featuring unlikely pairs to guide your own balancing act. Read Perfect by Max Amato (on sale 1/29/19), Bird and Squirrel #5: All Tangled Up by James Burks (on sale 1/29/19), and Unicorn and Yeti: Sparkly New Friends by Heather Ayris Burnell (on sale 4/30/19) this year.

Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20)

Your ruling planet Neptune is your sign for all of 2019, Pisces. Your sensitive energy will be heightened this year, and you will be more trusting and giving. Be careful with that energy because others may try to take advantage of you. When Neptune goes into retrograde in June, you’ll be more aware of those who don’t have your best interest in mind. Keep in mind that those who burn you should not deter you from continuing your selfless nature for those who deserve it.

Recommendations: The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins will help you keep an arm’s length from those who don’t have your best interest in mind, while staying true to your selfless nature.

Aries (Mar 20 – Apr 19)

Get ready for a super powerful year, Aries! Your ruling planet Mars begins the year strong in your sign allowing you to fully embrace the new year. With the sun entering your sign as winter turns into spring, you’ll be fully prepared to blossom into your true self. There’s nothing holding you back from showing the world exactly who are.

Recommendations: Embrace your power, Aries, with reads like Say Something by Peter H. Reynolds (on sale 2/26/19), Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild by Dav Pilkey, and Dactyl Hill Squad by Daniel José Older.

Taurus (Apr 20 – May 20)

It looks like your year should be clear sailing, Taurus, as your ruler, Venus, doesn’t go through any retrograde periods in 2019 — but don’t get too comfortable. While your areas of love and money should stabilize under Venus’ rule, it’s important to not become stagnant. When Uranus enters your sign at the beginning of March, don’t resist the planet’s energy of change. Keep an open mind and use the time to be introspective to figure out what you want this year.

Recommendations: It can be easy to get comfortable when things are going steady. Read Not If I Save You First by Ally Carter and What Would She Do? by Kay Woodward this year to help you be proactive.

Gemini (May 21 – Jun 20)

Get ready for an adventurous year because you’re up for anything in 2019. Your home planet Mercury will spend three retrogrades in the emotional water signs, which will affect your logical nature. Use these retros to step out of your emotional comfort zone. At the start of March you’ll be contemplating a big change, which can be scary but can also be really good.

Recommendations: Itching to get your adventurous year going? Dive into The Very Impatient Caterpillar by Ross Burach (on sale: 2/26/19), Geronimo Stilton The Journey Through Time #6 (on Sale 1/26/19), and The Serpent’s Secret by Sayantani DasGupta to gear up for any big changes the year may bring.

Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 22)

Get ready to take control, Crabs! The sun will be spending time in your sign during the summer, which will have you feeling confident during your favorite time of year. If you felt yourself retreating into your comfort zone in 2018, be prepared to break free in 2019. The full moon in January will expose you to the truths you’ve been avoiding. Pay attention — they will help you set off on the path of your destiny.

Recommendations: All The Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater; The Moon Within by Aida Salazar; and I’m Fun, Too (LEGO) by Jonathan Fenske will help you chart the course to following your destiny in 2019.

Leo (Jul 23 – Aug 22)

Starting the year off with a supermoon at the end of January will make it hard to hide anything. If you’re experiencing big changes it will be difficult to keep the negative side effects to yourself, but you’ll be more than ready to shout your successes to the world. The intense energy at this time could lead to prolonged drama, so be prepared to check yourself, Leo, before you say something you can’t take back.

Recommendations: Learn lessons in communication and confidence from Riverdale: The Day Before by Micol OstowTell Me Everything by Sarah Enni, and Drama by Raina Telgemeier to let your best self shine this year.

Virgo (Aug 23 – Sep 22)

The beginning of 2019 might have you feeling torn between which path to take this year when the supermoon is in your sign in February. The struggle between your emotional side and your practical side can make you feel stuck in place. Don’t feel like you have to keep these entities separate. Rather, you should use both your head and heart this year to help you reach your goals. It’s about balance, not singular choice.

Recommendations: Facing a choice this year? Read City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab, Monkey and Cake: What Is Inside This Box by Drew Daywalt (on sale: 2/26/19), and Goosebumps Slappy World #7: It’s Alive! It’s Alive! (on sale 2/26/19) to help you decide which path is best to take.

Libra (Sep 23 – Oct 22)

2019 is a year of renewal for you, Libra! With no retrogrades in store for Venus, you can harness the balance you’ll feel all year to focus on your personal relationships. A full moon lands in your sign in March and the sun spends time in your sign starting in late September, which will prompt you to focus on repairing relationships in all aspects of your life throughout the year.

Recommendations: Get ready to get personal with these reads, Libra! Listen To Your Heart by Kasie West, I Need a Hug by Aaron Blabey, and You Don’t Know Everything, Jilly P by Alex Gino will help you navigate those tricky personal relationships.

Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21)

It’s time to get serious about the big picture, Scorp. Your co-rulers Pluto and Mars are on your side to help you achieve your dreams. With Mars staying direct all year you won’t lose any drive, and Pluto is remaining in Capricorn will help you retain power. Use this combination wisely though; don’t let yourself get worn out or off track.

Recommendations: Stay focused with Mac B. and The Impossible Crime by Mac Barnett and Endgames (Newsprints #2) by Ru Xu this year, Scorp. These books will fill you with determination and drive.

Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21)

You love to learn new things, Sag, so get ready for a big year of lessons. Your home planet Jupiter will be in your outgoing sign until early December, which will allow you to be open-minded to new experiences. Jupiter’s retrograde in April will have you feeling more reflective than usual. Use this time to learn from past lessons and gear up for all the new opportunities headed your way.

Recommendations: Ready to learn, Sag? Take notes from The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg (on Sale: 2/26/19), Misunderstood Shark: Friends Don’t Eat Friends by Ame Dyckman (on sale: 1/29/19), and Mr. Wolf’s Class: Mystery Club by Aron Nels Steinke (on sale: 2/26/19) to be as open-minded as possible this year.
