During this year’s 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Virtual Ceremony, Oprah Winfrey was in attendance to honor young poets and writers from across the nation.
Oprah introduced the 2020 National Student Poets —five students who have attained the nation’s top honor for young poets—who, for the first time, came together during the awards ceremony to recite their original poem, “What the World Needs Now.”
Channeling their activism through the written and spoken word, this powerful poem is a testament to not only these young poets’ unique voices and individualized talents, but also the strength that comes from joining those voices together into one unified message.
