We’re in the final two weeks of the 2019 Scholastic Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Challenge… which means there’s still time for kids to make a BIG difference!
As of today, we are 12 million minutes away from hitting 100 million minutes, which will unlock the third and final book donation from Scholastic and distributed by local United Way’s to kids all across the country. With Minute Mania Month currently underway, now is the time to encourage your readers to log their minutes from the ENTIRE summer if they already haven’t – remember, every minute counts when it comes to giving back!
And although some children may already be back to school, here at Scholastic summer’s not over the yet! The Challenge officially closes on Friday, September 6th, which means there’s still time for you to pick up a new book and share a special moment with your reader.
Don’t forget – if your child is reading on behalf of their school, public library or community partner organization, there’s special recognition at stake! At the end of the summer, Scholastic will recognize the top school in each state as “Best in State,” as well as the top 10 libraries and community partners nationwide overall with the most minutes read. (They’ll also be included in the 2020 Scholastic Book of World Records, and receive a special Read-a-Palooza celebration kit and commemorative plaque!)
If your child doesn’t have an account through their school, library or community group and wants to participate, they can still sign up any time and enter their minutes from the entire summer, access resources like the custom Reading Time, and more! (Kids can click the sign in button on the home page, click “No” in the next prompt, and then complete the registration process and create their very own account.)
Books from our first two donations are already reaching families across the country thanks to distribution help from United Way, which is SO inspiring! Take a look at some of their most recent events!

Great day at the @desotoschools and @HealthyFla Back to School Fair handing out books from @Scholastic. About 1,100 children received backpacks that they filled with school supplies provided by over 30 community partners. #backtoschool2019 #education #schoolsupplies #ReadAPalooza pic.twitter.com/Oo8mILVVG7
