We recently published a sneak peek of the 2015 Kids & Family Reading Report, which asked kids what they really want in the books they read. In the survey of 6 to 17-year-olds, nearly half indicated they wanted to read books that contained characters they wished they could be like because they are strong, smart, or brave.
This got us thinking: what books are out there that contain characters that young readers deeply admire? What books feature characters who are strong, smart, or brave? And in turn, what books make kids themselves feel strong, smart, and brave? We thought we'd put it to a vote with the "BIGGERTHAN" Booklist Challenge! Join us, along with global superstar Usher and his New Look Foundation, in our quest to find the 10 books that empower kids the most. Teachers and parents, help kids cast a vote from now until January 23rd by following the steps below.
- Step 1: Have your students/children create a list of three books that make them feel “BIGGERTHAN”—that inspire them to take on challenges and have had a positive impact on them. (In the classroom, kids can work together to pick their three books as a group.)
- Step 2: Take a photo of the books, or of your students/children with the books.
- Step 3: Share your photo with us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook* with hashtags #BIGGERTHAN and #sharepossible.
On January 30th, 2015, we’ll share the results. Join us!
