Do you know an outstanding school librarian? Now is the time to nominate him or her for the 2015 School Library Journal School Librarian of the Year Award!
Sponsored by Scholastic Library Publishing, this second annual award honors a K–12 library professional for outstanding achievement and the exemplary use of 21st-century tools and services to engage children and teens toward fostering multiple literacies. In 2014, School Librarian of the Year Michelle Colte of Hale Kula Elementary School in Wahiawa, HI wowed judges with her creative integration of technology into instruction and exceptional community engagement. “I believe that being a librarian is about so much more than providing access to information and promoting literacy—it’s about helping people make connections and share knowledge within the community and beyond,” she explained.
All 2015 nominations are judged by an esteemed panel comprised of school administrators, SLJ editors, industry professionals from Scholastic and Michelle Colte. The 2015 School Librarian of the Year will receive the following:
- $2,500 cash award
- $2,500 worth of print and digital materials from Scholastic Library Publishing
- Feature article in the September 2015 issue of School Library Journal
- An invitation to the SLJ Leadership Summit in Seattle, September 26-27, 2015
Two finalists will each receive $500 in materials of their choice from Scholastic Library Publishing and be featured with the winner in online multimedia articles for School Library Journal. You can read more about Michelle and the 2014 finalists, Andy Plemmons and Colleen Graves, on SLJ.com.
