Everyone at Scholastic is deeply concerned about the children, their families, their teachers, and everyone whose lives have been impacted by Hurricanes Florence and Michael.
Scholastic is coordinating a company-wide response to support both short- and long-term efforts for recovery. We are working with Save the Children to get books into the affected areas, primarily for schools, shelters, and to refurbish early learning centers, as they are able to accept books. We will continue to work with our partners in the coming weeks to determine additional need.
Schools that want to help can donate their Scholastic Dollars to impacted schools so they can purchase books and materials to rebuild their school and classroom libraries. If your school would like to help, please contact your Scholastic Book Fairs representative for more information.
In addition, Scholastic News Online offers age-appropriate reporting for children, and will be covering the effects of Hurricanes Florence and Michael for young readers. We also offers tips for teachers and parents on how to talk to children about natural disasters.
If you’re interested in supporting disaster relief efforts, consider Save the Children, which has established specific relief funds for Hurricanes Florence and Michael.
