Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Scholastic Summer Reading program! Tomorrow officially marks the program close and after four months of summer reading fun, children are not only returning to school reading-ready, but they can also take pride knowing they have helped increase access to books for their peers in need.
As part of the fun, free and safe Scholastic Summer Reading program, kids nationwide were able to read e-books, watch author read-aloud videos, make friends with fellow readers, earn digital rewards, track their reading progress, and attend virtual events. During each event, kids were be able to interact with authors including summer reading ambassadors: Sayantani DasGupta (Kiranmala and the Kingdom Beyond), Varian Johnson (Twins, The Great Greene Heist), Ann M. Martin (The Baby-Sitters Club), and Kelly Yang (Front Desk), via a moderated chat function to ask questions, learn behind-the-scenes information, and sometimes even write a short story!
This summer, kids also made a difference! By creating and keeping Reading Streaks™, children helped to unlock a donation of 100,000 print books from Scholastic distributed by Save the Children to kids across rural America with limited or no access.
Students across the country received books to add to their personal home libraries right in their own communities. Check out this book distribution event at a Save the Children summer program site in Cocke County, TN!
Which books did our summer readers enjoy the most? The top three book series read in the Home Base summer zone were Dog Man, Wings of Fire and Harry Potter!
Congratulations to all Scholastic Summer Reading program participants for another amazing summer of reading!
