The "Scholastic Santa" story has stolen our hearts

There is a powerful story making the rounds online this week starring a Michigan teacher who just wanted to help her student save money to buy a book.

We're so moved by this story at Scholastic because it all started with a Scholastic Reading Club order form. WNDU.com reported on the story and interviewed the teacher:

"Last school year I had a student in my class every day, for four days bring me change," Rachel Kyncl, Sister Lakes Elementary School Teacher said. "He wanted me to hold onto it because he was hoping to order from our Scholastic book order. He kept bringing me money, I was saving it for him. It was finally the end and time to place our order and he still didn't have enough money and I said I'll pitch in the rest for you. To see how important that was to him, to have that book, of course I did it. I think any teacher would have."

When the local community heard about Rachel Kyncl's good deed, it went viral, and donations came pouring in.

Scholastic's very own Judy Newman, President of Scholastic Reading Club, has repsonded to the story.

“All of us at Scholastic Reading Clubs are awed and inspired by the viral book giving that is happening across the county. It is all thanks to teachers like Rachel Kyncl at Sister Lakes Elementary School, who have created a reading movement and are helping to “Open a World of Possible” for their students.  Thank you to all the teachers who give the gift of reading to children every day.”
