A Scholastic News Kids Press Corps update: Election 2016

As candidates gear up for the 2016 United States presidential election, they’ve hit the campaign trail to gain support across the county. Along the way, our Scholastic News Kid Reporters have been busy getting the inside scoop and asking the hard-hitting questions that are important to kids today.

Here's a look at what they have been up to recently:

Republican Debate: Take Two

On Wednesday, September 16, California-based Kid Reporter Jeremy Hsiao traveled to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley to see 15 Republican candidates on stage for the second Republican Primary Debate, presented by CNN. You can read Jeremy’s full story on Scholastic News.

As the candidates in the second group discussed their views on issues including the economy, immigration, and national security, all eyes were on front-runner Donald Trump. In his article, Jeremy notes that United States voters are still evaluating the presidential candidates and many people are awaiting the first debate with Democratic candidates, which will take place on October 13 in Nevada. You can view the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps story about the August 6th Republican debate in Cleveland, Ohio here.

Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference

Eleven-year-old Kid Reporter Benjamin Duckworth attended the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference this weekend in Michigan to catch up with some of the Republican presidential candidates and ask them about the pressing issues. While in Mackinac, Benjamin sat down with Carly Fiorina and Jeb Bush. Check out these awesome tweets from the Republican candidates:
