Last Friday, third grade students at Browning Elementary in north Houston, Texas, received the one millionth book donated by the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation (BBHLF) as part of the foundation’s My Home Literacy program. The donation of the one millionth book marked a full circle moment for the BBHLF’s My Home Literacy program, as the first book donated by the program in 2017 also went to Browning Elementary.
To honor this milestone, Scholastic joined students and staff of Browning Elementary for a celebratory event where students received six free books to take home, enjoy and add to their home libraries. In addition, the students were greeted by Clifford the Big Red Dog and Dog Man!
According to the latest findings from the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™, access to high-quality books that kids want to read is key to building foundational reading skills and a generation of readers– making initiatives like My Home Literacy program critical.
