Earlier this month, Clifford the Big Red Dog visited Granville County Public Schools in North Carolina as they launched a new leadership program to help 200 students build skills including citizenship and character building. As part of the program, Scholastic author and N.C. resident, Lester Laminack, kicked off the event with a special reading!
During the event, Laminack read from his book, Three Hens and a Peacock, which tells the story of characters that discover leadership and learn the value of being a good citizen. Additionally, representatives from Granville County Public Schools and Scholastic spoke at the event about the pivotal role leadership education plays and the opportunities available to students.
All students in attendance received a copy of the book to take home and keep forever. As research shows—home libraries are an important part of the literacy journey—96% of teachers and principals agree that providing year-round access to books at home is important to enhancing student achievement(Scholastic Teacher and Principal School Report™).
This event follows a series of partnerships between Scholastic and Granville County Public Schools including providing resources for summer schools.
