Summer is almost here… and pre-registration for the Scholastic Read-a-Palooza Summer Reading Challenge is officially open!
The Summer Reading Challenge is a free program designed to be both educational and fun to help prevent the effects of the summer slide—the learning losses that can occur during the summer months.
Starting today, educators, public librarians and community partner leaders can pre-register individual students or entire classes/reading groups. And, parents/caregivers can sign up children who plan to participate from home!
Over the course of 18 weeks beginning on Monday, May 6, kids can enter their summer reading minutes online, unlocking digital rewards as they complete weekly reading challenges; and access book excerpts, videos, and other summer-exclusive content.
Educators, public librarians and community partners registered for the Challenge can enter a Summer Reading Sweepstakes for a chance to win to some great prizes, including a LitCamp Kit, My Books Summer Take-Home Packs, and a collection of professional titles!
The Challenge closes on Friday, September 6, and at the end of the month we’ll honor the “Best in State” schools, as well as the Top 10 public libraries and community partner organizations overall nationwide.
Once you’ve registered your readers, take a look around scholastic.com/summer. We’ve got book lists for all ages in English and Spanish, letters to send home to parents, and a variety of printables (including a Minute Tracker and Certificate of Achievement) to you can use to help motivate kids to read all summer long.
We’ll see you in May!
