The power of choice and reading out loud to older children

We all know that the power of choice matter to kids. According to the “Kids & Family Reading ReportTM: 5th edition,” 91% of kids ages 6–17 said that their favorite books are ones they selected themselves!

In addition, the report also uncovered that 40% of kids ages 6-11 who are no longer read out loud to say they wish their parents had continued.

We caught up with Dr. Anne Cunningham, Professor of Cognition and Development, University of California, Berkeley to hear her thoughts on the importance of reading out loud to older children and the power of letting kids read what they want—even comic books!
