On the podcast: The new Jedi master behind Star Wars: Jedi Academy

We have a new podcast episode! This week, like the rest of the country, we caught Star Wars fever. We sat down with Jarrett J. Krosoczka, the author/illustrator of the two latest books in the Star Wars: Jedi Academy series, A New Class and The Force Oversleeps.

In addition to select Jedi Academy books, Jarrett is a New York Times bestselling author, two-time winner of the Children’s Choice Book Award for the Third to Fourth Grade Book of the Year, an Eisner award nominee, and is the author and/or illustrator of more than thirty books for young readers. His work includes several picture books, the Lunch Lady graphic novels, and Platypus Police Squad novel series.

During our conversation, Jarrett shared the story of how he finally got his first book deal (it took almost two years of rejections!), and what it meant to him to be asked to continue the Star Wars: Jedi Academy series.

"What really attracted me to the project was the challenge," he says. "And that I could create my own characters that would live in the world of Star Wars. . . I get to use Yoda, write lines for Yoda, and draw Yoda in an official capacity, and that iconic character. . . interact[s] with characters that I've invented!"

Jarrett also talked about his forthcoming graphic novel memoir, Hey, Kiddo, that is scheduled for publication in Fall 2018.
