Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip stop in Montclair, NJ, hosted by Watchung Booksellers.
Everyone was so excited to get the party started, that dozens of book-lovers arrived to the event before it was even supposed to begin! They just couldn’t wait to participate in exciting reading activities, win some cool prizes, and meet some of their favorite authors.
Those who made it to the Montclair stop were lucky enough to meet authors Gale Galligan, Gordan Korman, and Joyce Wan.
Kids from all over Montclair and the surrounding area had an absolute blast celebrating their love for reading with some of their favorite characters, Dog Man, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Geronimo Stilton. They even got to become characters themselves — activity booths provided costumes that kids could wear to look just like Captain Underpants or a Hogwarts student!
Before reaching Montclair, the Scholastic Road Trip RV drove all across the country to nine other bookstores, libraries, and community organizations to spread the word about the importance of summer reading. From California to New York, kids have had the exciting opportunity to be reminded of the joy of reading, especially during the summer. Scholastic has been continuing this initiative for the past two years – you can read all about last year’s Summer Reading Road Trip here.
