In Our Feeds: Pizza, villains, spelling bees, and Reading Rainbow

Every Friday, we share a handful of links that we found funny, provocative or just plain cool. We call it In Our Feeds. Have a great weekend!

It's a gorgeous Friday afternoon here in New York, one filled with books (everyone's out at BookExpo, it seems!) and the promise of a sunny weekend ahead. Before we all leave to go play on beaches and in parks, though, we're catching up on some of the most interesting links of the week. Here goes:

  • Alex shared with me a slideshow of school lunches from around the world. (I remember pizza Fridays fondly!) It's fascinating to see what kids are being fed. What's it like at your child's school?
  • Speaking of pizza, Brittany found this hilarious story about pizza poetry -- penned by pizza deliverers, it's totally worth a read.
  • Meanwhile, let's talk about villains. Yes, villains. After all, the Washington Post is talking about them -- specifically, what if they're not as bad as we think? Especially considering they're often more multidimensional than the heroes and heroines? (Link courtesy of Mike!)
  • Back to the subject of books with this link from Deimosa: the Children's Choice Book Award winners were recently announced. As the only awards chosen by kids and teens, they can show us what kids really like to read. Check out the slideshow here!
  • And more book news for kids, this time from Megan: Levar Burton's Kickstarter for Reading Rainbow was a huge success!
  • And finally, this week was the Scripps Spelling Bee. We love seeing these kids be spelling superstars! (H/t Lia)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend -- what links are you catching up on?
