In Our Feeds: #bookface, Stephen Colbert, Improbable Libraries, and the first Summer Reading Challenge story unlocked

Every Friday, we share a handful of links that we found funny, provocative or just plain cool. We call it In Our Feeds. Have a great weekend!

The Summer Reading Challenge officially kicked off this week, and kids have already unlocked the first of twelve exclusive stories by thirteen participating authors! Visit the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge site right now to read Wendy Wan-Long Shang’s short story, “A Kick in the Teeth!”

Earlier this year it was announced that a new work (which just so happens to be the sequel to her classic To Kill a Mockingbird!) by Harper Lee would be published. Now, we’ll be getting more works from Mark Twain too; over 100 letters Twain wrote for Nevada’s Territorial Enterprise were recently discovered by The Mark Twain Project.

The New York Times has a story on the librarians and book lovers that love to show off their #bookfaces on Instagram.

This just may be the cherry on top of #TeacherApperciationWeek: Stephen Colbert pledged to fund all of the grants on DonorsChoose.org submitted by public teachers (1,000 of them!) in South Carolina!

Could you imagine Times Square without all of its bright, neon billboards? It could happen!

You love browsing the stacks at the library; why not add the book Improbable Libraries - featuring photos of some of the world’s most incredible libraries - to your personal collection? (Or, you can paint a bunch of old bricks to look like literary classics.)

This story may inspire you to go out and buy some crayons: meet the adults that love to color.
