In Our Feeds: Art, the future of reading, and criticism

Last week was a holiday (hello, 4th of July!) so we skipped In Our Feeds. But the Internet never stops, so here we are today with a list of links we recommend to get your week started off right!

First up: We all know how we read has changed over the years. But what does the future of reading really look like? This piece from New York Magazine about the topic made me think. Is the standalone e-reader going the way of the iPod?

I also dug this Atlantic story about the role of arts education. Now, we all know it's important (I hope?), but what I really like about this take on it is the notion that arts education can and does inspire learning in subjects like math and science. So not only is it important in its own right -- the world needs artists, after all -- but it also plays a role in the learning of every other subject.

Finally, BrainPickings.org has a wonderful piece from Malcolm Gladwell about the role of criticism and why we should always be changing our minds. "If you don't contradict yourself on a regular basis, you're not thinking," he says.

What do you think?
