I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Dreidel
By Caryn Yacowitz, Illustrated by David Slonim (Ages 4-8)

In I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Dreidel by Caryn Yacowitz and illustrator David Slonim, famous artworks and a popular folk song take on hilarious new life for a wonderful Chanukah picture book with a modern twist.

It starts innocently enough:  A family sits down to a delicious Chanukah brunch with their grandmother. But when Bubbe accidentally swallows a misplaced dreidel — “a Chanukah dreidel she thought was a bagel” — well, her appetite for oil, latkes, applesauce, brisket, and even the menorah and candles can’t be contained! Will she survive her Chanukah hunger— or will it be fatal? With a text set to the tune of “I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly,” the illustrations likewise parody famous works, including Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night and Edvard Munch’s The Scream, for the most original and laugh-out-loud holiday picture book you’ll read this year.
