National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Judging Begins!

This is a big week here at Scholastic headquarters in New York City – National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards judging has officially begun!

Since the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers opened the call for submissions back in September, the response has been enormous and submissions have poured in. It has been such a thrill watching the regional Awards buzz online and in the news, as these talented teens join the ranks of notable past Award alumni including Truman Capote, Philip Pearlstein, Sylvia Plath, Andy Warhol, Zac Posen, Stephen King and Lena Dunham who all won when they were teens.

Now, a fraction of this incredible pool of art and writing works will continue to be judged based on originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal vision or voice. Having first been judged regionally through more than 100 affiliates of the Alliance, Gold Key-winning works are then blindly judged nationally by a panel of creative-industry experts such as Nikki Giovanni, Red Grooms, Paul Giamatti, Faith Ringgold, Wangechi Mutu, David Sedaris and Andres Serrano, who have served as past jurors.

All National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards winners will be announced via National Notification on March 17, 2014.

Congratulations to the 2014 Regional Winners
