Monday is St. Patrick's Day, a day where everyone feels just a little bit Irish! Originally a religious holiday, the holiday has broadened quite a bit and is now, partly, a day to celebrate the history and accomplishments of the Irish people. Fun fact: I'm only a tiny bit Irish, but one of my favorite writers is an Irish legend: the acclaimed poet Seamus Heaney. So I have a soft spot in my heart for Irish literature! How about you?
Speaking of books, our Top Picks site has some great themed recommendations, like:
- Ten Lucky Leprechauns by Kathryn Heling and Deborah Hembrook, illustrated by Jay Johnson -- in print and Storia format!
- Green Shamrocks by Eve Bunting, illustrated by Joelle Dreidemy -- in print and Storia format!
- Rainbow Magic: Lindsay the Luck Fairy by Daisy Meadows
There's more at Scholastic.com, though, including this St. Patrick's Day: Everything You Need page, which links to tons of resources for kids of all ages (and their teachers and parents!).
What are your St. Patrick's Day plans this year?
