Literacy is the birthright of every child

Today is Human Rights Day. At Scholastic, we believe that literacy – the ability to read, write and understand – is the birthright of every child andthat the right book at the right time can “Open a World of Possible,” lighting an emotional spark within children to understand themselves and the world they live in.

Our longtime friend, Phyllis Hunter, President of PCH Consulting, and advocate for children’s literacy coined the phrase “reading is the new civil right,” and we couldn’t agree more! In this video Phyllis talks about the importance of all children becoming strong and confident readers.
