Librarians are transformers (contest winner announced!)

Libraries today are “less about what they have for people and more about what they do for and with people.” Our Scholastic Library Publishing team is proud to support the American Library Association’s new “Libraries Transform” campaign, designed to increase public awareness of the value, impact and services provided by libraries and library professionals. We recognize that the transformations are the hard work of the library’s greatest asset, the librarians—or as we like to refer to them, the superhuman transformers.

During National Library Week this year, we saluted librarians for making a difference in their school and community. We wanted to make a difference as well by recognizing and rewarding exceptional library transformers. We asked librarians to tell us, or better yet, show us, how they transform their library to be entered to win $500 worth of Scholastic Library Publishing books and a 1 year subscription to one of our award-winning digital products.

We were blown away (but not surprised) by the passionate, transformational stories that we received! From physically remaking the library space to reimagining the programs and resources offered, librarians across the country proudly shared how they are transformers.

The winner of the “I am a #Transformer” contest is Judy Bowling, Media Specialist of Cooper Upper Elementary in Westland, Michigan who values students’ involvement in her school’s library transformation. Judy shared, “Our library has been transformed from a drab, dingy, and unwelcoming environment to one that is warm, welcoming and creative. We have also added a makerspace where students can design, tinker, innovate, create and invent. Our students have been involved in the transformation as they have shared their ideas, thoughts and designs. We continue to reimagine the learning space for our students so that we can meet their needs today and tomorrow!”

We look forward to proudly highlighting additional library transformer stories throughout the year on the Scholastic Librarian Facebook page.  In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek of some of the incredible ways librarians are #transformers:
