Introducing the Scholastic Bookshelf!

This year, Scholastic turns 100. To celebrate, we are delighted to announce that today we’ve launched @ScholasticBookShelf, a first-of-its-kind Instagram resource to help parents and teachers answer kids’ most pressing life questions.

Since 1920, Scholastic has provided the resources to help children understand current events and contemporary issues, and the Scholastic Bookshelf is no different. It uses the power of stories to help children broaden their minds, challenge their imaginations, and ultimately navigate an increasingly complex world. The Bookshelf inspires conversations and open dialogues with kids by meeting parents and teachers where they already are—on Instagram. While 61% of parents and teachers often use stories, books, and articles to help have conversations with childreni, they are turning more and more to advice on social media—roughly 3 in 5 millennial parents turn to social media for parenting advice at least 3–6 times a weekii.

Offering excerpts from over 60 Scholastic stories, as well as suggestions to discover nearly 300 additional fiction and non-fiction related stories, the Scholastic Bookshelf has been curated to include some of the company’s best books and classroom magazine articles that address a comprehensive and diverse range of topics that are currently on the minds of parents and teachers today. With a total of 68 topics, parents and teachers will be able to find stories that center on evergreen subjects like anxiety, bullying, and imagination, as well as timely topics like race, diversity, illness, and much more.
