Project Summer is back!
No matter how much high-quality learning takes place during the school year, without continued learning opportunities for all students over the summer, children’s skills can slide.
At Scholastic, we work hard to motivate teachers, educators and every caring adult to promote reading during the summer in their classrooms, schools, districts, organizations, communities and homes – through our Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, through our My Books Summer program and more. And we know it’s a priority for many of you.
Because we wanted to hear how communities around the country were motivating children to read throughout the summer, we held a contest last year called “Project Summer” where we asked people to tell us about their summer reading programs for a chance to win free books. And we’re doing it again this year.
We had some great entries last year! Elam from New York City mentioned his plan to conduct a summer literacy camp called a Storyteller’s Adventure for six weeks, which included a different literacy theme each week. Ashley shared her plans to host the St. James Kaleidoscope EPIC camp through Charleston County School District’s Kaleidoscope Program in partnerships with PCG Education’s Educational Partnerships Team. Now it’s your turn to tell us what exciting plans you have to encourage your students to read all summer long.

Our Project Summer contest begins on April 12, 2015 and ends on May 11, 2015. For a chance to win FREE My Books Summer books packs, enter the contest by submitting your plan for promoting summer reading in the comments sections below or by posting your summer reading plan on our Facebook page. Please limit your response to 250 – 500 words.
Three winners will be chosen based on their summer reading plans and will receive summer reading book packs at the organization of the winner’s choice. The winners will be announced on May 18, 2015.
