Today is National Siblings Day! One of our most consistent inquiries at The Scholastic Store is what books should you get for a new sibling. One of my consistent recommendations has a very personal meaning!
I've long been a fan of Zoe Gets Ready. Zoe had the perfect amount of imagination and spunk that made her just adorable! I couldn't help making it a staple of story time in my own house. (It also didn't hurt that my own daughter was born just about the time that the book came out.)
When the second book, Zoe's Room, was released, the timing couldn't have been more perfect! My son had just come home and indeed, Lydia was now sharing her room. Not having had the chance to introduce the concept of a new sibling because my son's adoption was an emergency placement, Zoe's Room was the perfect way for me to teach Lydia about having a younger sibling. Zoe starts the book territorially but ends up sharing amazing adventures with her new sibling. It was everything I hoped would develop in my kids relationship and wound up being just as much a comfort for me as it was for Lydia.
