Last week I was on vacation in Wildwood, NJ. I look forward to this trip with my family all year, not only because I get to spend time with them, but also because I get to catch up on my reading under a big umbrella with my toes in the sand.
I brought three books with me down the shore, and finished them in six days. Specifically, I read the entirety of The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins in one five hour sitting on the beach, with only a brief interlude to take a dip in the ocean.
When I got back to Scholastic HQ, I wondered if anyone else had ever read an entire book in one day. Turns out, a lot of people had! (It seems like the perfect recipe for this to happen is a compelling story coupled with some quiet time off!)
Anne said she read all of The Hunger Games in one day while on vacation in Montana. "Quiet, reading time."
Alex read What I Saw And How I Lied by Judy Blundell during an afternoon at the beach. (I'm sensing a trend!) With a few twists and turns she called it "a perfect summertime read!"
It also appears to be easy to devour an entire book while traveling. Recently, while on a six hour train ride from Beijing to Shanghai in China, Brittany read Storm Front by Jim Butcher: "It was action packed from beginning to end with wizards, mystery and magic—the perfect train read!"
Mike sent me a list of three books he each finished in one day; how impressive! They are: The DaVinci Code, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Catcher in the Rye.
Megan read The Female Brain, and also included her thoughts: "FASCINATING."
No suprise here: our libriarian Deimosa has the longest list of all! Here's what she read, each in a day:
- Adrift, Paul Griffin
- Bronxwood, Coe Booth
- Cress, Marissa Meyer
- Inhuman, Kat Falls
- The Maze Runner, James Dashner
- The Godfather, Mario Puzo
- Grasshopper Jungle, Andrew Smith
