I was an avid reader growing up. (Still am!) I received just as many books as I did toys on birthdays and holidays, but there were definitely some popular books and series that slipped past my radar.
For example, I was never into Sweet Valley High – the books, or the television series. I still haven’t read one, in fact. Same with Nancy Drew and The Boxcar Children. (I know, I know – but I was more of an American Girl and Encyclopedia Brown kid.)
I’m actually more up on YA trends now, as I enter my thirties. (As an employee at Scholastic that should be no surprise!) Although, I’ll admit, I still get into things a bit late – I had to binge-read the first four Harry Potter books to prepare for the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. (I was there at midnight to buy my copies of Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, too.) My eyes were as crazy as Mad Eye Moody’s after that! And I did read the entire Hunger Games series, but only just before the release of the first film.
What books did you read long after their popularity peaked, or, which trends did you just plain miss?
