On October 20, 1920, M.R. Robinson published the first issue of The Western Pennsylvania Scholastic, a 4-page magazine for classrooms that covered high school sports and social activities. That day also marked the beginning of Scholastic Inc., although it would be another six years before the company published its first book!
Today (94 years later), 80% of K-6 classrooms in the United States read Scholastic classroom magazines each month. The 28 magazine titles, which include Scholastic News, Junior Scholastic, MATH, Scope, and Science World, reach more than 25 million students in PreK to grade 12 in print, online, and tablet format. Many things have changed in schools over the past 94 years, but students' fascination with learning about the world hasn't!
In celebration of our history and of the great things we have to come, we'll be sharing fun facts about Scholastic on our social media accounts today (follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google+). Feel free to join in the conversation using #scholastic94.
