Reading resolutions

Do you make New Year's resolutions? While many people I know stopped making their lists of resolutions when they were in school, I still see January as a fresh start and a chance to focus on improving or changing something. I decided to take a look at my current reading habits.

I track the books I read by marking them as “read” on Goodreads. While this is helpful in terms of making a list of books I've read, I realize I don’t remember much about them! When people ask me about these books, I can see how many stars I gave it on a scale from 1-5, but I don’t remember why I rated a book 3 stars or 5 stars.  My goal is to be more thorough in my reviews of books by noting what I liked/disliked about the books.

I’m also going to try to read a more diverse selection of books. Most of what I read now is fiction or children’s/Young Adult. In 2014, I read only 1 nonfiction book - I also started/stopped a memoir and collection of essays, but I don’t think I can really count those since I didn’t make it past 50 pages of either -  so I am going to try to read (and finish) 3 nonfiction books in 2015.

Here's what other OOM-ers hope to do in 2015:

Gina: I’m going to try to read a book a month! I read a lot of magazines and online blogs, but I usually read physical books in the summer (I love bringing them on the beach!). I’m going to break that trend! Maybe leaving some physical books on my bedside table will help.

Anne: my reading resolution is to read more about historical topics that help me better understand our past.

Brittany:  In 2014 I found myself turning to Netflix more often than I’m proud to admit, so in the new year I resolve to read at least one new book every month!

Kristen: My reading resolution for 2015 is to simply read more! I’m almost embarrassed by how little pleasure reading I did in 2014, so I’m going to set a goal of 2 books per month (more if possible, but let’s start small!) this year.
