Senior Production Editor, Scholastic Education (Updated 12/19/14: This position is now filled. Stay tuned for more jobs next month!)

Opportunity for a skilled self-starter to take the next step in their career and manage an expanding nonfiction/reference list in a growing department within Scholastic Trade.

This position manages the production of the nonfiction and reference list as well as with a 1/c concentration, ebook, slipcases and value stickers: reviewing specs in all stages, production checking and routing all stages of mechanicals and proofs (both traditional and electronic) to ensure all text and design corrections have been incorporated correctly.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Maintain all production schedules, ensuring that the target dates are accurate and communicating deadlines to the Senior Managing Director, Design, Editorial and manufacturing departments.
  • Oversee the freelance copyediting staff (both in-house and out of house) by hiring, training, supervising their schedules, priorities and quality of work.
  • Coordinate the various electronic databases and servers locations that house our reprint, barcode, and electronic copyediting information; manage all necessary IT maintenance.
  • Conduct status meetings and all other meetings as necessary, ensuring timely agenda distribution, attendee participation, and follow up.
  • Coordinates sending updated action points weekly to Publisher, executive managing Editor and other departments as needed.
  • Liaise with book packagers in regards to specs, schedules, and all other production needs.
  • Update and maintain the production status agenda for all titles managed, reviewing weekly to make sure all info is entered clearly and correctly, troubleshooting any issues with entry or coding.
  • Oversees on-time creation of DSIs, galleys, F&Gs, and other sales materials in support of the marketing team.
  • Report to the Senior Managing Director and provide support as needed

Implementation Consultant, Scholastic Education

The objective of the Implementation Consultant is to provide premier customer service, training, in-person support and coaching to customers.  The goal is on pro-active customer support to insure optimal program performance, instructional integrity and to gather and report results. The Consultant will work very closely with the Directors of Implementation.

Responsibilities:

Partnerships-

  • Establish service partnerships with classroom teachers using Scholastic products
  • Facilitate successful implementation of Scholastic products
  • Ensure fidelity of implementation
  • Share best instructional practices with READ 180 and other Scholastic Products
  • Facilitate ongoing review of customer satisfaction through proactive customer contract and discussion
  • Provide daily and weekly updates to the Director of Implementation
  • Create ongoing dialogue with School Administrators

Training and Professional Development:

  • Provide Day 1, Day 2 implementation training for READ 180 and other Scholastic products
  • Consult with leadership and teachers about their professional development needs
  • Provide ongoing professional development, including seminars as needed
  • Facilitate cadre meetings as needed
  • Support teachers use of the online course Best Practices for Reading Intervention
  • Provide Training/PD reports following each training to the DI

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Encourage periodic progress monitoring assessment
  • Model regular use of report data to individualize and differentiate instruction
  • Gather and review student data and provide recommendations for improved results
  • Collect student data for use in local and district analysis
  • Work Closely with product development and technical support to address any product performance issues and provide input for future product enhancements
  • Provide updates to READ 180 and customer database
