A few weeks ago, we introduced you to our new Scholastic News Kids Press Corps. Our new reporters had just started working on their first assignments when we received the exciting news that Ainsley Felter, a Kid Reporter from the Washington, D.C. area, would have the opportunity to visit the White House to speak with President Obama about his ConnectED initiative.
Ainsley prepared some great questions and headed to the White House where she met with Cecilia Muñoz, Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, to be briefed on the initiative. ConnectED aims to provide more schools across the country with access to technology -- currently, less than 40 percent of schools in the United States have high-speed internet access. Ainsley, who previously attended school in Hawaii where access to technology was very limited, asked President Obama if the program would be able to help schools in remote areas.
