Art Director/Designer, Klutz Books
As art director/designer you will work with the team and the VP of Product Development to drive the creative vision at Klutz. The Art Director will work on projects from conception to production, and will be part of the team that will elevate the brand to look more modern and fresh while maintaining its integrity.
Everyone at Klutz is responsible for bringing in new ideas and developing them into high quality, innovative, fun, and accessible products; primarily books and kits that encourage kids to learn by doing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with all members of the team on the development of the project from concept to finish
- Inspire, manage, and design alongside a team of graphic designers, freelance photographers and illustrators, and packaging and product designers
- Design packaging, book cover, and interiors for each product, making sure that the graphic treatment is aligned with the brand, appeals to the target audience and serves the content of the project
- Organize and manage multiple projects per season, assuring that each is delivered on time and within the established budget.
- In collaboration with the Product Manager, select and hire, or approve the hire of, freelance illustrators and photographers. Manage these contributors, or oversee their management, to ensure they deliver Klutz-quality art and images on schedule, within budget and in the format that best meets Klutz’s needs.
- Work with the Product Manager to coordinate, or oversee the coordination of, all aspects of photo shoots. This includes, but is not limited to, soliciting editorial input, conceiving of photo set-ups, gathering props and wardrobe, selecting the best models and locations and directing photographers to ensure that they deliver terrific, Klutz-quality images that serve the content, align with the Klutz brand and meet editorial goals.
- Review separator and printer proofs to ensure that they are accurate and that they meet Klutz’s high quality standards. Ensure that corrections and changes are clearly communicated to the separator/printer or Production liaison.
- Other responsibilities to support the Product Development team, as assigned.
- Be passionate about crafts, science, or building, and be excited about creating beautiful packaging, typography, and books.

We are seeking to hire an energetic Account Executive with educational publishing experience who can partner with schools and communities to extend literacy.

Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as the Lead for all identified districts.
- Develops intimate relationships with all stakeholders throughout the accounts
- Meets with customers to discuss areas of concern and gaps.
- Develops district contacts and cultivates relationships at all levels that enhances Scholastic’s position which leads to major growth within designated accounts.
- Compiles account information on organizational structure (parent and subsidiaries), buying process, compensation process, existing products/tools to produce a prospective business report identifying potential business activities necessary to close accounts.
- Maintains regular contact with account base, and increases revenue from positioning and demonstrating new and existing products, preparing appropriate RFPs, and closing the sale.
- Generates, develops, manages, and communicates expectations within assigned accounts as well as increases scope of penetration within each account.
- Qualifies new opportunities and prospects, dimensions the size of opportunities and articulates probabilities of closure.
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation in TMS360 of all activity
- Maintains broad knowledge of company products and their capabilities versus the strengths/weaknesses of competitive products.
- Travel up to 60%.

Opportunity for a skilled self-starter to take the next step in their career and manage an expanding nonfiction/reference list in a growing department within Scholastic Trade.
This position manages the production of the nonfiction and reference list as well as with a 1/c concentration, ebook, slipcases and value stickers: reviewing specs in all stages, production checking and routing all stages of mechanicals and proofs (both traditional and electronic) to ensure all text and design corrections have been incorporated correctly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain all production schedules, ensuring that the target dates are accurate and communicating deadlines to the Senior Managing Director, Design, Editorial and manufacturing departments.
- Oversee the freelance copyediting staff (both inhouse and out of house) by hiring, training, supervising their schedules, priorities and quality of work.
- Coordinate the various electronic databases and servers locations that house our reprint, barcode, and electronic copyediting information; manage all necessary IT maintenance.
- Conduct status meetings and all other meetings as necessary, ensuring timely agenda distribution, attendee participation, and follow up.
- Coordinates sending updated action points weekly to Publisher, executive managing Editor and other departments as needed.
- Liaise with book packagers in regards to specs, schedules, and all other production needs.
- Update and maintain the production status agenda for all titles managed, reviewing weekly to make sure all info is entered clearly and correctly, troubleshooting any issues with entry or coding.
- Oversees on-time creation of DSIs, galleys, F&Gs, and other sales materials in support of the marketing team.
