For many, yesterday was a typical summer Sunday. Maybe you lounged in the late afternoon sun with a book or took a casual stroll or relaxing dip. Not for us. Our team was absolutely wired with excitement— bouncing off the walls, jumping up and down, high-fiving with strangers...why? At approximately 12pm EST, kids participating in the Summer Reading Challenge hit the 200 million minute mark, a HUGE accomplishment for the hundreds of thousands of kids who have committed to reading every day this summer.
With six weeks still left in the program, we've already doubled the number of kids participating this year, and the number of schools signed on to read as well. With 200,000,000 minutes under their belts, kids have far exceeded the 2013 world record of 176,438,473 minutes read and are well on their way to setting a NEW world record for summer reading!
Congratulations to all of the parents, teachers, and most importantly, the kids, who've helped reach this epic milestone. You can learn more about the program and this major accomplishment here.
