This past month, kids across the nation went “reading under the stars” at their local planetariums.
In partnership with the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, Adler Planetarium (Chicago) and California Academy of Sciences (San Francisco) hosted their planetarium sleepovers with a “Reading Under the Stars” theme. The results: An once-in-a-lifetime experience paired with the memory of reading an amazing book.
On June 6th, over 210 kids stayed overnight for Adler Planetarium’s “Astro-Overnights” and read a total of over 6,000 minutes that evening.
On June 13th, over 250 kids in the San Francisco-area read alongside with their penguin pals for California Academy of Science’s “Penguins + Pajamas” event.
Scholastic joined in on the planetarium overnight fun by providing books including The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System and MISSION: Mars, EVEREADY® flashlights and batteries, Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge activity sheets, reading certificates and more to encourage kids to read all summer long.
