The Rainforest Action Network (RAN) published A New Chapter for the Publishing Industry: Putting Promises into Practice, a report which assesses 10 top book publishers on the progress of their commitments to eliminate controversial Indonesian fiber in the paper they use. We’re happy to report that Scholastic was the only publisher to score “above average” in every category, but even more happy to see that many of our colleagues in the industry are making strides toward more sustainable paper procurement options!
We first set sustainable paper procurement goals in 2008, and we've made a lot of progress toward increasing the amount of FSC-certified and recycled paper that we use to produce your favorite books and magazines (you can read more about that here). We know that preserving the environment is important to the future of our children and our world, so we'll continue making the best effort to do our part!
