One of the many fun things about working at Scholastic is being surrounded by people who love books! It also means that my TBR list is constantly growing with everyone’s recommendations! Looking to start something new? Here’s what OOM-ers are reading now:
Currently, Alex is reading The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. She’d recommend picking up Divided We Fall by Trent Reedy.
As a librarian, it makes sense that Deimosa is reading multiple books at once. Right now she’s reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner, The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula LeGuin, and The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan.
Like Alex, Deimosa recommends Divided We Fall by Trent Reedy, along with Bronxwood by Coe Booth Saga Vol. 1 (graphic novel) by Brian K. Vaughan (author) and Fiona Staples (illustrator).
Megan and Mike are both reading Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi, which Megan says is a modern retelling of Snow White, but it's also strange and sad and funny. Mike also recommends The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly.
Brittany is currently reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon and recommends Dreadnought by Cherie Priest.
Lia says "I just finished Middlesex, which I really, really liked and would definitely recommend. Prior to that, I read The Goldfinch, which I’d call a must-read. I totally loved it. Just started New York: The Novel by Edward Rutherfurd—looks promising! I’m excited to learn more about the history of NYC, and I’m a sucker for historical fiction."
Like Lia, I loved Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize winning book, The Goldfinch, and would highly recommend it. Now I’m reading books for my 2 book clubs Where the Rock Splits the Sky by Philip Webb (for Scholastic’s employee book blub) and Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
This weekend, Emma started reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, which was recommended to her by a colleague, and Anne is reading The Book Thief.
What are you reading now? Are there any books you’ve read recently and would recommend?
