Promoting Book Access for Every Child: The Scholastic 2024 Philanthropic Impact Report

At Scholastic, we believe in the transformative power of books and the importance of making them accessible to every child. Our third annual Philanthropic Impact Report highlights our ongoing efforts and partnerships aimed at improving global literacy and ensuring that children everywhere have the opportunity to experience the joy of reading.

Reaching Millions of Children Through Partnerships

This past school year, Scholastic and our dedicated partners reached over 30 million children and 350,000 teachers by distributing books through our extensive nonprofit networks. Our collaborative efforts are driven by a shared mission to provide essential resources and create irresistible experiences that foster a lifelong love of reading.

Innovative Educational Programs and Initiatives

The 2024 Philanthropic Impact Report showcases our work with partners to develop innovative educational programs that are crucial for children's learning and success. From distributing millions of books to hosting hundreds of free Scholastic Book Fairs, our initiatives are designed to remove barriers to literacy. This past school year, we worked with esteemed partners such as Book Trust, Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation, Reach Out and Read, Save the Children, and the Scripps Howard Foundation, among others.

Empowering Children Through Choice

Since 2016, the Scripps Howard Fund has provided 1.5 million books to some of the nation’s most vulnerable children. Meredith Delaney, President and CEO of the Scripps Howard Fund, shared, “Through our collaboration with Scholastic, we not only give children access to books, but also the freedom to choose the ones that captivate them, resonate with their experiences, and open doors to new worlds.”

The Impact of School-Based Resources

The Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™ underscores the critical role that school-based resources play in increasing children's access to books. According to the report, 54% of children obtain the books they read for fun from school or classroom libraries, school book fairs, and order forms sent home by their teachers.

Looking Ahead

As we continue our mission to promote book access for every child, we are inspired by the stories of impact and the positive changes we see in communities around the world. We remain committed to working with our partners to create a brighter future where every child has the opportunity to discover the magic of reading.
