Storyvoice Launches Read Aloud Fridays this Fall

As the excitement of the back-to-school season settles and kids are back in classrooms, Scholastic is delighted to share that Storyvoice, the Company’s digital home of live read-alouds, will launch a new series of live reading experiences every Friday.

The new series, Read Aloud Fridays, is a place where students can read, draw, and connect with their favorite authors. These live reading events are a great way to boost excitement and encourage a love of reading in students.

Some highlights from the lineup (all times are listed in the Eastern time zone) includes:

  • Lucy Ruth Cummins and Pete Oswald, authors of Sleepy Sheepy at 11:30 a.m., Friday September 27, 2024

  • Juana Martinez-Neal, author of Alma and How She Got Her Name, at 1:00 p.m., Friday September 27, 2024

  • Peter H. Reynolds, author of Say Something!, at 2:00 p.m., Friday September 27, 2024

  • Josh Lewis, Ray’s Big Day: A Journey at the Speed of Light, 11:30 am, October 4, 2024

  • Kathryn Rammell, Rory the Remarkable Dragon, 2:00 pm, October 4, 2024

  • Jen Arena, Acorn Was a Little Wild, 11:30 am, October 11, 2024

  • Brenda Maier, The Little Green Swing, 2:00 pm, October 11, 2024

The benefits of reading aloud as kids get older are undeniable, and Storyvoice serves a critical purpose by engaging school-aged students through read-alouds at the very moment when reading aloud tends to decline in the home. Recent research from the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report™ found that while half of kids five and under are read aloud to at home 5-7 days a week, that number declines to just about one-third of 6–8-year-olds and merely 16% of 9-11-year-olds.
