This August, Camden City School District in New Jersey hosted an enrollment fair to welcome new and returning students and families and to distribute key resources for the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year.
At the event, Camden ISD worked with community vendors to provide free vaccinations, food, games, music, school supplies, and more to boost enrollment numbers throughout the district. Scholastic employees and Clifford were on-site to provide take home reading kits to every kindergarten and first-grade student to support their educational growth and get kids excited about reading.
Dr. Terica Butler, Director of Development at Scholastic said: “We know from research that when students have access to a large number of books, their reading motivation increases, their attitude toward reading increases, and they have a more positive outlook about their competence as it relates to literacy growth.”
According to the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report: 8th Edition™, 41% of kids say they get most of the books they read for fun from their school, while 42% of parents of school-age children turn to teachers/school librarians for help in choosing books for their child. Events like these not only lend a helping hand in giving communities the resources they need, but they also help unlock opportunities and curiosity for young learners.
This event kicks off a multi-pronged collaboration between CCSD and Scholastic, in which the district will be using vital resources and tools from Scholastic F.A.C.E., including My Books Every Day, Read and Rise®, Literacy Pro®, Rising Voices Libraries, and more.
