We’re proud to announce that 29 students will be joining the award-winning Scholastic Kids Press program and will be writing “news for kids, by kids” during the 2022-2023 program year!
Together, this year’s team of Kid Reporters represent 15 U.S. states and 8 countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam. In the future, they aspire to become actors, zoologists, journalists, politicians, and so much more! These young journalists are also fluent in over a dozen languages, including German, Mandarin, French, Korean, Farsi, Spanish, and Urhobo. When getting to know these reporters, it was mentioned that Lin Manual Miranda and Bill Gates are at the top of their interview wish-list.
Meet this year’s team of Scholastic Kid Reporters!
During their time in the program, our 13 new and 16 returning student journalists will begin or continue their reporting journeys. While learning the ins-and-outs of journalism by working closely with their editor on stories, they will cover a variety of topics such as the widespread effects of the pandemic and the impacts of climate change. Through this one-of-a-kind reporting experience, Kid Reporters will have incredible opportunities to travel, connect with world leaders, improve their writing skills, engage in on-going research projects, and develop their worldview in the process.
“Scholastic Kids Press has provided me with so many life-changing opportunities and experiences,” said 13-year-old Scholastic Kid Reporter Zhoriél Tapo. “I have enjoyed researching topics, meeting people, conducting interviews, and writing articles. I can’t wait to see what I’m able to learn and report on this year.”
Within the past year, Kid Reporters covered several notable developments and events, including the war in Ukraine, both the Winter and Summer Olympics, momentous elections in the Philippines and South Korea, and more. They also had the chance to interview FBI Agents, the First Nations Chief Robert Joseph, Nobel Prize recipient Robert Lefkowitz, basketball star Jeremy Lin, an education expert at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City, renowned authors, U.S. Representatives Bonnie Watson Cole and Deborah Walsh, and so many more figures.
