Scholastic provides affordable books to millions of educators, students, and families across the country. By keeping our prices affordable, we make it possible for all families to participate in our programs and for every child to discover a love of reading—helping to prepare them for success in school and in life.
Currently, the United States Postal Service has asked the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to approve revised rate categories that would dramatically increase our shipping costs on educational materials and negatively impact Scholastic Book Clubs’ ability to offer low-cost books and reward programs that help teachers build their classroom libraries. This means that the empowering and transformative experience of reading and having a book of their very own would be out of reach for a large number of children in the communities we serve.
If you want to make a difference, here’s how you can help:
- Using this template PDF, write your own letter to the Postal Regulatory Commission against this change. Be sure to use Docket number: MC2021-78 in your subject line.
-
Letters to the PRC can be mailed via USPS or emailed to: dockets@prc.gov
-
Send copies to the PRC oversight committee leaders: U.S. House Representative Carolyn Maloney, U.S. Senator Gary Peters, and also to USPS Board of Governors Chairman Ron Bloom.
-
- Advocate for change on social media by sharing this blog post, Facebook post, or tweet.
The deadline for public comments is May 17, so please write, mail post and share your support by May 11 to ensure it reached the PRC in time. Thank you in advance for your time and your support. Together, we can keep books and educational materials accessible and affordable for all!
