Today’s the day – Scholastic Summer Read-a-Palooza has begun!
From now until Friday, September 4, kids are encouraged to keep track of their summer reading progress in Scholastic Home Base, a free and safe digital destination for readers. Once in Home Base, kids can visit a new Summer Read-a-Palooza zone to check in and start their Reading StreakTM. For every two days in a row kids check in that they have read, they’ll help donate a book from Scholastic to a child with limited or no access.With the goal of unlocking up to 100,000 books by July, United Way Worldwide—the world’s largest privately funded nonprofit—will distribute the books across the country to locations where access to more high-quality books is needed most.
Besides maintaining their Reading Streaks, there’s so much for kids to do in Home Base, including: read select full ebooks, make new friends, meet favorite authors, draw comics, play games, create and dress up an avatar, and more! In honor of today’s Scholastic Summer Read-a-Palooza launch, the Home Base team is hosting a fun celebration this afternoon! Check out the schedule of events:
2pm ET - Hub Tour with the Admins
Join the Home Base admins for a tour of the brand new Hub! They’ll show off the new areas including our brand new Summer Read-a-Palooza zone, new featured ebooks, and reveal some sneaky secret areas.
2:30pm ET - 20 Questions: Book Characters
Join Admin Gavin for a game of 20 Questions! Gavin will be thinking of a specific book character, and it’s up to the players to guess who he is thinking of. Ask yes or no questions in the chat along the way, and Admin Gavin will provide helpful hints. Can you figure out what book character he’s thinking of in just 20 questions?
3pm ET - Summer BBQ Costume Party!
Get your most summery outfits ready for a costume party and BBQ in the Summer Read-a-Palooza zone! Who’s bringing the potato salad?
3:30pm ET - Reverse Q&A!
This time, the players will be the ones answering questions! The admins will ask all sorts of things about the books they like to read, where they get inspiration from, and more.
