2013 was a big year at The Scholastic Store. We welcomed hundreds of thousands of guests into the store, held hundreds of birthday parties and held the most events we've ever had! It wasn't easy but we've come up with our top 5 moments for the year:
- The 15th Anniversary of the Harry Potter series - We didn't just welcome Kazu Kibuishi and Arthur Levine to debut the new cover artwork but also saw Sirius Black, Prof. Trelawney and even a lifesize Golden Snitch. We had so much fun with all of the Harry Potter fans who came to celebrate with us!
- Teacher Appreciation Week 2013 - In all honesty, this was a week but it was a week of fantastic, inspiring moments. From Phyllis Hunter's rousing opening to the very last session with Rachel Stack that ran long because there were just that many questions, we learned just as much from the teachers as we hope they got from us!
- Star Wars Reads Day - We had the FORCE with us this October when Jason Fry, Daniel Lipkowitz, Matthew Reinhart, and Jeffrey Brown stopped by The Scholastic Store for the second Star Wars Reads Day. They also had a few escorts from the Empire - in the form of Darth Vader and some Storm Troopers!
- Children's Book Week - Our Saturday event on May 18th was Picture Perfect! We celebrated Children's Book Week by welcoming Mark Teague, author of The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf and illustrator of the How Do Dinos... series, Nicholas Blechman, illustrator of Night Light PLUS the author and illustrator of Lucky Ducklings - Eva Moore & Nancy Carpenter!
- Summer Challenge Crafting Kickoff - What do Balloon Animals, Adventure Boxes and Animal Puppets have to do with Summer Reading? When they come from Martha Stewart's newest craft book for kids and make reading fun, a whole lot! At each of our Summer Reading events in June and July, kids 'visited' a country through reading and got to take home a treasure to put in their Adventure Box!
We're already planning new adventures in 2014 with LEGO and Captain Underpants! You can check out our Facebook page for all of our exciting 2014 events!
Happy New Year!
