Today would have been the 100th birthday of Jackie Robinson, legendary baseball player and civil rights activist who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball. To celebrate this milestone birthday of a beloved icon, we sat down earlier today with his daughter Sharon Robinson to talk about her father’s legacy and Major League Baseball’s Breaking Barriers, the educational program she founded in partnership with Scholastic. Sharon also told us about her new book, Child of the Dream: A Memoir of 1963, coming this Fall. See the whole interview on our Facebook Live here.
As we honor Jackie Robinson’s legacy today, we are thrilled to share the cover of Child of the Dream: A Memoir of 1963 by Sharon Robinson. The book follows Sharon the year she turns thirteen years old. Featuring never-before-seen photos, Sharon Robinson gives us an intimate look into her family’s history and advocacy during an important year in the history of America.
