Manager, Brand Publicity

The Brand Publicity Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative publicity campaigns for key author/brands, licenses, and franchises as assigned.

Working closely with the Brand publicity and marketing teams and reporting to VP Brand Publicity and Franchise Strategy, the ideal candidate will create press materials and secure media interviews, develop and execute buzz-worthy author events and tours, collaborate with key brand partners and licensors. 

Must be skilled in pitching and securing national media, experience in digital and social media preferred.

Executive Editor, Early Childhood Language and Literacy

The Executive Editor of Early Childhood Language and Literacy will assist in creating innovative, research-based, developmentally appropriate learning experiences. He or she will contribute to product planning and will manage a team of content developers to bring product plans to fruition with the highest commitment to quality and efficacy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Senior Director, contribute and adhere to product plans including instructional models and editorial guidelines, working within established development schedules and project budgets.
  • Work with program authors and consultants as needed, eliciting input, managing expectations, and building rapport and enthusiasm.
  • Manage up to 3 editors and external freelancers and vendors as needed.
  • Write, review, edit, and approve content as needed.
  • Ensure content alignment to relevant research and early learning standards.

Principal Data Engineer

Scholastic is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead ongoing development of the Scholastic Data Cloud (SDC). The candidate will demonstrate a successful track record of thought leadership and management skills coupled with deep experience engineering and managing cloud-based data platforms. The ideal candidate will be distinguished not only by their experience working in a cloud-based, multi-tenant environment, but also by high levels of creativity, passion and thought leadership.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Scholastic Data Cloud (SDC) development effort focusing on scalability, quality and performance
  • Manage a team of data engineers located both on and off shore
  • Serve as the organization’s expert on SDC platform technologies and architecture
  • Perform employee performance reviews and regular one-on-one sessions
  • Perform code reviews
  • Ensure adherence to Scholastic’s enterprise best practices
  • Design efficient, scalable processes to acquire, manipulate and project data

Release Engineer

The Release Engineer will join Scholastic’s System Lifecycle Engineering team to create and maintain deployable systems artifacts across the various STS Programs. The engineer will build (or source), maintain, and integrate the underlying technology stacks that support software builds and/or application deployments. The candidate will also serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to development teams and will act as Level 3 support for Production and Operations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Architecting, maintaining, and streamlining our automated build and release pipeline from code compilation, automated testing, to deploying releases to multiple environments
  • Defining best practices for source control management
  • Creating and maintaining documentation of the build/release process
  • Investigating tools and processes and integrating them so that they can improve the reliability, stability and efficiency with which we release our services

Production Editor 

Paperbacks Production Editor oversees production of around 75 Trade chapter books and novels per year in addition to related sales materials, and editions for ebooks, libraries, and the school market. Responsible for keeping editors and designers on schedule. Oversees freelancers, for copyediting and proofreading of manuscripts and typeset text. Checks for quality assurance of text, illustrations, and photos, and covers all stages from manuscript to finished books.

Responsibilities:

  • Handles book production from copyedit through bound book, including bound galleys (where applicable) and ebooks
  • Reviews copyedit and passes (assess freelancer work as needed) of covers and interior text
  • Answer copyedit/proofreader/editor queries when possible
  • Keep book/series style sheet updated and enforce house style
  • Carefully review materials (manuscripts, art, covers/jackets) and traffic them through various in-house departments
  • Work closely with creative, editorial, and manufacturing departments on all aspects of a book
  • Work with Associate Production Director to create and maintain schedules
  • Follow up with editorial/design when deadlines are missed
  • Lead biweekly status meetings, and attend various other meetings as needed
  • Enforce department best practices
